KITS — DEAD RAPED WOMEN

KITS, a series created by David Černý in 1994, ironically presents plastic model kits rendered at a 1:1 scale. The figures depict familiar clichés such as Adam, Eve, Jesus Christ, the Rock Star, the Artist, and the Curator. Among them, Dead Raped Woman explicitly addresses the consequences of armed conflicts, where rape and other forms of sexual violence were systematically employed as weapons of war. As we know, rape has been used throughout history as a strategic weapon of war, a tool of terror and an instrument of ethnic cleansing, employed to degrade entire populations and assert domination over them. David Černý’s direct exposure to the political and social realities shaping the continent at the time, as well as his response to the atrocities committed in the former Yugoslavia. I did not expect that any kind such violence and pure animal brutality can happen in europe in new milenium, I thought This piece was residium from nineties.
